Dear Spirit to Spirit friend,
Have you ever experienced an animal choosing to make long, deep eye contact with you? Eye contact that was so surprising, so penetrating, so moving, that you felt yourself completely melt? Perhaps it was with one of your beloved family members, or an animal in sanctuary, or a wild one.
What is that, when an animal makes a deliberate and conscious choice to connect in such a powerful way? In a way that not only bursts the heart wide open but touches the soul as well.
This is a sacred moment. When one being has chosen to stretch beyond species and reach into the soul of another species. When one being has chosen to reveal the deepest part of his/her nature to another. When an animal lets you know that s/he sees you, feels you, knows you beyond your ordinary qualities, knows you in the depth of who you are.
A moment like this can change us- forever. If we can allow ourselves to sink into the eyes of the animal and feel the soul of the one looking at us. Who we think we are, who we think animals are, and how we see life can become different all at once. The illusory veil of separation can drop away and, finally, we can see each other -as we truly are.
And, we can see life as it is: that we/everything- all living beings, all of life- are inextricably intertwined, that we are one seamless interconnectedness. Interconnected in the Great Love that is everything, in Spirit that we all are.
We cannot make such a connection occur. We can only be open and available to it and notice it when it is in front of us.
May your soul catch a glimpse of animal soul today. And in that soul, see the soul of the Universe.
